Mondays this fall

Greg Wilson:

I'm running my consulting course this fall (CSC490 for undergrads, CSC2125 for grad students) with a twist: every project will have to do something with the data that the City of Toronto is about to start putting online for its citizens' use. We will meet 3-5 pm on Mondays from September to December; we hope to know by late July or early August exactly what data we'll have access to.

Separately, I'm organizing some cross-Canada undergrad projects: students will register for their schools' equivalent of CSC494, but work together in distributed teams. Eight universities are on board so far, and I'm talking to five others; thanks to sponsorship from four companies, we will bring all the students to Toronto Sept 25-27 for a code sprint. We should know by mid-August exactly we'll be tackling: the present plan is two web development projects, one with a systems flavor, and another in AI or computer vision.

I'd like to ask for your help:

  • If you're interested in doing a project (of either kind), please get in touch.
  • Please pass this notice on to any other students you think might be interested. I particularly want to reach incoming grad students, undergrads doing PEY, summer jobs, or NSERC USRAs, and --- well, everyone, actually :-)

Thanks for your help,
Greg
